Time to introduce you to one of the most important characters I will be writing regularly about – my dog, TOTP.
I love dogs, their fun-loving affectionate natures, their wonderful company, and regardless of your mood, how happy they are to see you walk in the door. They are also loyal, protective, and really smart – I’ve heard of amazing stories of dogs rescuing people, their extraordinary scent abilities, and how good they are with those of us who need extra help.
We’ve had many dogs as pets in my family over the last twenty years or so, but I’ve never had a dog of my own, it never seemed to be the right time. This changed last November when TOTP came into my life.
TOTP (acronym of his kennel name) is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, one of my favourite dog breeds. He was the pick of his litter, and became a show dog, winning praise and rosettes for several years. You can see he’s a handsome fellow! His life changed in 2020 when – luckily for me – there were no shows (or breeding opportunities). TOTP’s path to Champion diverted to being a Writer’s Dog – in my opinion, a much happier life.
As a Writer’s Dog, his duties – so far – are light. He gets me up early to write – at least, he did on my holidays. He encourages me to take a break away from the screen (to throw the tennis ball for him), and he gives me that all important cuddle or lick if I am feeling disheartened.
I have plans for him to take on my advertising campaign once my book The Lucky Diamond is published in November – extra runs for boosting sales!
I’d love to hear about your pets or what you think about animals in the comments below.
Thank you for reading!
TOTP loves a good run, be it across the grass or on the beach!
