Book Review: Dragon Force – Infinity’s Secret

I read Dragon Mountain by Katie and Kevin Tsang, the first in their Dragon Realm series, almost two years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it (see my review here). I intended to read the next books in the series but with a rapidly growing and very demanding TBR (yes, I am personifying it!), I didn’t. However I was happy to get an opportunity to read Dragon Force: Infinity’s Secret, the first in a spin-off series.

The story takes place five years after Dragon Mountain, and the world has completely changed. Humans and dragons now live side by side, after both worlds became one during the Great Collapse. Billy Chan heads the elite Dragon Force, protecting the world from dangerous monsters that also entered the human world at the same time as the dragons. Twelve year old Lance Lo longs to find his own special dragon and join the Dragon Force. When little sister Zoe heart-bonds with a dragon, and then is invited to Camp Claw for training, and possible recruitment to the Dragon Force, before Lance does, Lance can’t help feeling a little jealous. His invitation comes in the nick of time, and while Lance is thrilled to be at the camp, he can’t help wondering if he will be one of the rare cases that don’t form a heart-bond with a dragon at all, despite their early potential. As it turns out, there are even bigger problems for Lance to worry about.

This is a hugely imaginative and fun adventure. The central premise of the story is around the life-long heart-bond that dragons have with some humans which, once formed, releases and enhances their own hidden magical gifts (for both human and dragon). Who wouldn’t love to form that special bond with a dragon? I know I would. Infinity’s Secret starts with a great introduction to the world for those who haven’t read the Dragon Realm series (or those who read only the first in that series, like me!) before everything goes wrong, and the impregnable Dragon’s Claw base turns out to be not so safe as they thought. With great characters, wonderful dragons, and terrible danger, Infinity’s Secret is a super start to this new series, and I am certain will be hugely popular with lower middle grade readers (and anyone who likes dragons!)

Infinity’s Secret will be published on 4th October (according to NetGalley, 14th September as per Amazon so it may already be out). Thanks to the publishers Simon & Schuster Children’s UK and NetGalley for the eARC.

  1. I agree with you that books about bonding with dragons are good ones. I have a hard time keeping up with all the books in a series. This one sounds like a winner. Thanks for featuring it this week.

  2. Oooh ~ another dragon series. I mean, I still have the Dragonriders of Pern somewhere on a dusty shelf… Definitely going to look for this one, assuming I can tame my TBR list
