While on a family vacation to a theme park, Taylan gets into trouble with her parents for telling her little sister that the Happily Ever After (HEA) fairy-tale characters they meet are not really who they say they are. Furious at being reprimanded for upsetting her sister, Taylan drags her brother Colby with her to get video proof of her claim. However, instead of finding actors, it looks like the HEAs in this particular theme park are real, and not only that, some of them are trouble. Not everyone is what they seem, and Taylan and Colby get caught up in the battle between the light and dark HEA characters.
This is a fast-paced and entertaining story that is sure to appeal to kids. I’ve never been to a theme park (queueing for rides does not tempt me at all!) and now that I’ve read this story, I definitely won’t visit, they are far too dangerous… 😊. It was fun meeting so many fairy-tale characters, from the Wolf and the three little pigs, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan to Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast. Be warned – your favourite fairy tale characters may be working on the dark side!
Taylan and Colby are good characters, and I liked the portrayal of their relationship. They might not always see eye-to-eye but in the face of danger, each will do anything to save the other (or their little sister). I have some questions about the world, but this is book 1 of 3, so I am sure all will be answered over the series.
Overall this story has a strong premise, good plot and characters, and lots of action. The writing, however, is uneven in places, and some scenes would have benefited from clearer description. Despite this, The Land of Fake Believe is a fun read, and TOTP and I award it 7 out of 10 diamonds.
The Land of Fake Believe will be published on 1st September. Thanks to the author for the ARC, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
